Obituary:
Lela M. Briley, 70, of Thompsonville; died at 12:00 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Herrin Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2013 at the Leffler - Poulson Funeral Home of Benton with Bro. Jackie Davison officiating. Burial will be in the Elder S.M. Williams Cemetery near Ewing. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m. at the Leffler - Poulson Funeral Home.

Lela was born on September 8, 1943 in Chicago, the daughter of Rice Pedigo and Flossie (Carpenter) Pedigo. She married Charles Woodrow Briley on October 21, 1962 and he survives.

She formerly worked for 25 years at the Franklin Hospital in Benton where she worked as a nurse's aide and also worked in the physical rehabilitation department.

Lela was a member of the Tamaroa Independent Pentecostal Church. She loved to listen to gospel music. She enjoyed going to yard sales, auctions and loved to fish.

Mrs. Briley is survived by her husband Charles Woodrow Briley of Thompsonville; a son Charles D. Briley and girlfriend Darla Gibbs of Thompsonville; three daughters Darla and husband Jeff Johnson of Carpentersville, IL, Shannon Briley and boyfriend Scott Tuttle of Thompsonville, Margaret and husband Robert Szczeblewski of Sesser; grandchildren Michelle Johnson and Christina Aiken of Carpentersville, Brittany Allen, Sarah Overton and Scott Tuttle all of Thompsonville, Stephanie Lorraine and Joey Myers both of Buckner and Kelsey Szczeblewski of Sesser; six great-grandchildren; two brothers Terry Pedigo and wife Pat of Christopher, Dennis Pedigo and wife Candy of Benton; two sisters Paulette Sullivan of Royalton and Gloria and husband Bob Tick of Springfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Jessie Pedigo and Tony Pedigo; and a brother-in-law Floyd Sullivan.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association or the Tamaroa Independent Pentecostal Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.

To Lela's family, I worked with her at the hospital a long time ago. My mom had the beauty shop there until she got sick. I believe Lela took care of her there as well. She was a sweet lady always working circles around us all. I never saw her mad, always smiling and chewing that gum! I don't get the paper any more and just found out today! I'm sorry for your loss.
