Mr. James A. Carroll, age 75, of Thompsonville; passed away at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton, with Bro. Pope Hand officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery of Thompsonville. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.

James was born on June 29, 1942 in Thompsonville, the son of James A. Carroll and Mary Elizabeth (Harris) Carroll.

He was the owner and operator of Carroll’s Salvage in Thompsonville, and had formerly worked at Allen Industries.

James enjoyed reading books, loved animals, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his two children James A. Carroll and wife Misti of Thompsonville, Laurie Bennett of Thompsonville; six grandchildren: Sarah Trusty, Lindsay Trusty, Thomas Bennett, Jamie Carroll, Stephanie Scott and Tyler Carroll; three great-grandchildren: Olivia King, Gannon Sanders, and Addalyn Scott; two sisters: Bettye Joyce Shiflett of West Frankfort, and Oveda Camden of Shelbyville, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harvey Carroll, two sisters Mary Holloman and Sandra Clark.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, American Diabetes Association, or to the SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital of Mt. Vernon, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
