Obituary:
Mr. Bruce A. Smith, age 63, of Benton; passed away at 5:51 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Franklin Hospital Emergency Room.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.

Bruce was born on September 7, 1954 in Herrin, Illinois, the son of Charles Smith and Patricia (Rich) Smith. He married the former Sheila R. (Bonebrake) Jones on February 2, 2002, and she survives.

He formerly worked for Bombardier Recreational Products of Benton, for 25 years, where he was in the prototype department, mould maintenance, and quality control. After Bombardier closed he attained an Associate in Applied Science in welding.

Bruce loved traveling on his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and in 2013 he picked up his 50th state on a Harley.

As anyone that has seen his pictures, knew that he was an excellent photographer, and many had told him he needed to sell his pictures or make calendars with them.

He is survived by his loving wife Sheila R. Smith of Benton; his mother Patricia Smith of Freeman Spur; his children: Mike Taitt of West Frankfort, IL, Amanda Pyle of Johnston City, IL, Dawn Smith of Kansas City, MO, Eric Jones of Bluford, IL, Tracie Jones-Graham of Benton, and Gideon Jones of Norfolk, VA; 18 grandchildren; three sisters: Melanie Smith of Herrin, IL, Jana Clark of West Frankfort, IL, and Tammy Mays of West Frankfort; his mother-in-law: Virginia Wininger of Benton; three nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; and his father.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
