Steven Patrick Peck, 57—beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, and friend—played his final hand on December 3, 2017. An avid and skilled poker player, Steve is remembered as a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, a terrific cook, and above all, as a true gentleman and a kind soul.

Born on April 21, 1960, he was the son of Donald and Mona (Secrist) Peck, and the treasured brother of Donna, Jody (Leila Jo), and Marcia. During his lifetime, he made his home in communities across Illinois and Iowa, most recently residing in Benton, Illinois, where he moved to join his sister Jody as a companion and caregiver to their parents.

The great joy of his life was his son Jason, daughter-in-law Jessica, and grandchildren Ephraim and Aeris. He was a father of the heart to Samantha Goodin and Hope Shriver and a good and loyal friend to Jeff Dayhoff and Rick Lewis.

A graduate of Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School, Steve was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He owned the Student Prince restaurant in Macomb for nine years, taking great pride in home-cooked food (most of which he prepared himself) and a staff he treated like family. He later worked as a truck driver for Allen Foods and Kohls Trucking.

Steve is survived and will be deeply missed by his father, Donald Peck; son and daughter-in-law Jason and Jessica Peck, and their children, Ephraim and Aeris of Brookfield, Wisconsin; sister Donna Peck and her daughter, Emma, of Kansas City, Missouri; sister and brother-in-law Leila Jo (Jody) and Murphy Hart, of Benton, and their sons Ryan, of South Bend, Indiana, and Caleb, of Benton; and sister and brother-in-law Marcia and Michael Cassidy, and their children, Donna Jo (D.J.) and Brennan, of Lowell, Massachusetts. He is also survived by a dear aunt and uncle, Hazel and Richard Lindsley, and an uncle, Michael Burrei, all of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mona, and his treasured Great Dane, Kitty.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Illinois Chapter, 320 E. Walnut Street, Suite A, Carbondale, IL 62901; and will be accepted at the funeral home.
